1. International Tiger Day...a day to appreciate the beauty, grandeur and importance of our National Animal.... BENGAL TIGER. Every year, at Zoological Garden, Alipore we take this opportunity to create awareness among young students by organising interactive programmes for them. But this year it is a little different, as we are in a lockdown situation due covid-19 pandemic. But we should not waste any opportunity to create awareness about wildlife. So, we are using this platform to spread knowledge about our National Animal.
2. Celebration of World Environment Day at Zoological Garden, Alipore on 5th June, 2020. Amidst the Coronavirus and Amphan situation we thought the best way to celebrate the day is by planting trees. Sal, sonalu , kurchi, bahera , ritha ,basanta sundari, yellow palash , mahul etc at were planted at zoo. Amphan has taken away about 40 nos of old tree. We will plant about 2000 tall tree during the month of June - July.
Zoo Festival at Zoological Garden, Alipore a. Zoological Garden, Alipore organised Zoo Festival on the occasion of Childrens Day from 14.11.2019 to 19.11.2019 for awareness generations among the students through joyful learning, experience and different competitions like painting, clay modeling, quize, extempore speech, craft etc on different days. The programme was inaugurated by Janab Firhad Hakim, Honble MIC Urban Development and Municipal Affairs and Mayor, Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Other esteemed guests included Sri B.P. Gopalika, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary to the Govt. of West Bengal, Department of Forests and Department of Animal Resource Development, Sri S. Barari, IFS, PCCF & HoFF, Govt. West Bengal, Sri V.K.Yadav, IFS, Addl. PCCF & Member Secretary, West Bengal Zoo Authority, Smt. Sangeeta Dubey, IFS, Addl. PCCF, RMD, Govt. of West Bengal, Sri Sashikumar, IFS, CF, Wildlife, Headquarters, Govt. of West Bengal, Sri S. b. On 16th July, 2019, World Snake Day was celebrated at Zoological Garden, Alipore. Students from Behala Girls High School and Bethune Collegiate School participated in the days events. There were sit-and-draw competitions, tree plantation precession with placards inside the zoo for the students. An interactive presentation was delivered by Zoo Educator on Snake conservation. Altogether around 150 participants including staff of Zoological Garden, Alipore attended the programme.
c. On 29th July, 2019 International Tiger Day was celebrated at Zoological Garden, Alipore. On that day, the enclosures of Anaconda and Hyena were inaugurated by Sri Bratya Basu, Hon’ble Minister in-charge, Department of Science & Technology and Biotechnology and Department of Forests, Government of west Bengal. 2 Leopards and a White tiger were also released in their respective enclosures by the Hon’ble Minister. Students from Barisha High School, Barisha Vivekananda Girls’ High school, Jadavpur Vidyapith and Mount Litera Zee School participated in a sit-and-draw competition and procession with placards and banner organized by Zoological Garden, Alipore. The keepers of the Tiger, Lion and Reptile section were felicitated by Hon’ble Guests, Sri Siddhartha Barari, IFS, PCCF and HoFF, Government of West Bengal, Sri Subrat Mukherjee, IFS, PCCF, CAMPA and FCA, Government of West Bengal and Sri V.K.Yadav, Addl. PCCF & Member Secretary, West Bengal Zoo Authority. Altogether around 300 participants including staff of Zoological Garden, Alipore attended the programme.
