South Khairbari Rescue Centre having an area of 25 Ha was established in the year 2003in the district of Alipur Duar. Objectives of the centre are The centre houses 18 Mammals. Nearby this rescue centre, many places of interest’s viz., Chilapata Forest, Buxa Tiger Reserve, Jayanti, Jaldapara National Park, Kunjanagar Eco Park are situated. The Centre is to make conservation education & awareness generation about wild animals & birds among general public, to rescue and rehabilitate the leopards / Tigers / Lions. Present address of the centre is Jaldapara Wild Life Division – III, Nilkuthi, P.O.& Dist : Alipur Duar, Pin : 736101.It is 11 kms from Jaldapara.
Average yearly visitors is more than 60, 000. The Centre is under the charge of the Divisional Forest Officer, Cooch Behar Forest Division, who is the Ex-Officio Director. The zoo is opened from 9.30 am to 5.00pmexcept one weekly holiday.Official contact no.03242-250307.
The Forest Department, Govt. of WB has created this Rescue Centre for rehabilitation of Leopards from Tea Gardens and Tigers from Circuses. The Central Zoo Authority has recognized it as Leopard Safari and Rescue Centre (Mini zoo).
