Around 72 million Social Security beneficiaries receive monthly payments from the Social Security Administration (SSA). In May 2024, SSI recipients received an additional payment, as it was one of the three months scheduled to provide double SSI payments. Checks were sent out on May 1st and May 31st. The SSA’s scheduling guidelines stipulate that SSI benefits are disbursed on the first of the month unless it falls on a weekend or holiday, in which case payments are made the preceding business day.
Consequently, the June SSI payment was disbursed on Friday, May 31st, due to June 1st falling on a Saturday. If you received this payment, your next scheduled payment will not be until July 1st. This scheduling quirk will repeat later this year; September’s payment will be disbursed on August 30th since September 1st is a Sunday.
However, if you receive regular Social Security income rather than SSI, you won’t be significantly affected in June. Regular Social Security payments scheduled for the third Wednesday of the month will be disbursed on Tuesday, June 18th, due to Juneteenth being a federal holiday on the third Wednesday.
Full SSI Payment Schedule
For SSI beneficiaries, the payment schedule for the rest of the year is as follows:
- July: Monday, 1st
- August: Thursday, 1st
- August (September): Friday, 30th
- October: Tuesday, 1st
- November: Friday, 1st
- November (December): Friday, 29th

For instance, single individuals might receive up to $973 per month, while eligible couples could get up to $1,460.
