Social Security Announces Extra $1,000 for Millions of Retirees

The Social Security Administration (SSA) in the United States is responsible for making monthly payments to over 70 million beneficiaries, including retirees, low-income workers, and individuals with disabilities. These beneficiaries depend on accurate and timely distributions, and to ensure consistency, the SSA publishes an annual payment schedule. This helps beneficiaries know when to expect their payments.

This year, in August, there will be an extra payment not typically included in the usual distribution order. This extra payment results from September 1 falling on a Saturday. SSI Benefits

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are issued on the first of every month. Due to September 1 being a Saturday, SSI payments will be distributed on August 30. Additionally, retirement payments for Americans living abroad and those who started claiming benefits before May 1997 will also be distributed on this date.

Regular Monthly Payments

The rest of the benefits will follow the regular schedule throughout September:

• Retirees with Both Social Security and SSI Benefits: These individuals will receive their retirement payments on Tuesday, September 3.
• Birth Dates Between the 1st and 10th: Payments will be issued on the second Wednesday of the month, which falls on September 11.
• Birth Dates Between the 11th and 20th: Payments will be issued on the third Wednesday of the month, which falls on September 18.
• Birth Dates Between the 21st and 31st: Payments will be issued on the fourth Wednesday of the month, which falls on September 25.

Adjustments

Payments will generally follow the outlined schedule, but there will be adjustments for weekends and holidays:

November Adjustments

• November 1: Since this date falls on a Friday, and November 3 falls on a Sunday, retirees receiving both Social Security and SSI payments will receive both on November 1.

December Adjustments

• November 29: The first December payment, which includes SSI payments, retirement payments for Americans living abroad, and those who started claiming benefits before May 1997, will be made on this date due to December 1 falling on a weekend.
• December 24: The third retirement payment, usually due on December 25, will be advanced to December 24 to avoid the Christmas holiday.
• December 31: Those who receive payments on the first of every month will get their January payments on December 31, ending the year positively.
