Economic assistance continues in the United States, albeit not as extensively as during the pandemic. The federal government previously authorized several stimulus checks to help Americans cope with the financial impact of COVID-19. While these Economic Impact Payments (EIPs) have concluded, some states are still providing stimulus payments to help residents manage rising inflation and other pandemic-related challenges.

State-Specific Stimulus Payments

Alaska

Alaskans received a new stimulus check worth more than $1,300 on May 16th from the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD), which is derived from the state’s oil mining revenue. The PFD is an annual payment intended to increase returns, protect capital, and convert nonrenewable natural resources into long-term financial assets.

California

In California, households qualifying for the Fresno Guaranteed Income Program will receive $500 monthly stimulus payments. This program aims to support 150 households in Fresno County for 12 months to help cover daily living expenses.

Michigan

Ann Arbor, Michigan, continues to support its small businesses with monthly stimulus checks of up to $528. At least 100 small businesses will benefit from this guaranteed income program designed to bolster the local business community.

New Mexico

New Mexico’s Taxation & Revenue Department and Human Services Department will provide $15 million in economic stimulus payments to 26,085 applicants. Of these, 19,289 will receive direct deposits, and 6,796 will receive paper checks. Recipients of direct deposits should see $500 or $1,000 in their bank accounts within two business days.

New York

Rochester, New York, is providing a $500 monthly stipend to qualified citizens as part of a guaranteed income plan. Participants in this program can receive up to $6,000 in stimulus payments and have full discretion over how to use the funds.

Texas

The Uplift Harris Guaranteed Income program in Harris County, Texas, has been paused due to a lawsuit brought by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Consequently, the first payment has not been delivered. Harris County will continue to fight for the program in court to provide residents with necessary resources.

Washington

Residents of Tacoma, Washington, received a $500 monthly stimulus check on May 15th through the Growing Resilience in Tacoma (GRIT) program. This initiative supports low-income households with monthly checks for one year, continuing until June 2025.
